4 Line 1.4- Cross Contour Lines 03:13

Cross contour lines help artists begin to see the form and volume of an object. They reflect the movement and direction of your eye in and around what you see. In other words, these lines travel around the form of the object you are drawing and are usually implied lines (not visible). This is the first step in creating the illusion of three dimensions on a flat piece of paper. Practicing these lines will help you create that illusion before going into shading.

This unit looks at how to recognize shapes in our world and to be able to break down complicated objects into simple shapes so we can draw them. Shapes are 2-D meaning that they have two dimensions: Height and Length
Forms, which we will get into soon, are 3-D meaning they have three dimensions: Height, Length, and Width

9 Shape 2.2- Two Categories of Shape 05:31

Shapes are divided into only 2 categories: Geometric and Organic. Geometric shapes are typically manmade shapes and have names. We find shapes in this category based on the math of Geometry. Organic shapes are more irregular shapes that we do not name because of their irregularity. These are shapes that come from nature like sticks, rocks, trees, etc.

Course Goals

Upon completion of this course, students will know how drawing corresponds to the Art Elements of Design. Students will have an appreciation and understanding of the mehanics and skills involved with a composition, have a solid foundation of skills upon which they can continue to build through practice and future courses, and feel comfortable with expressing their own voice and making their own artistic choices.

I'm lucky that I discovered my passion early in life as I have been involved in the Visual Arts since I was in middle school. Not only am I a proud teacher of over 40 years, but I have also started/owned 3 art galleries that continue to win "Best Galleries" in their local communities, I am a practicing artist with collectors around the world, I own my own paper casting business and a wholesale business in handmade gifts. I have been highlighted in local magazines/newspapers and national magazines for my artwork and work with students, and held the first student art show at Michigan State University in collaboration with historical studies. My students have received many scholarships and can be found in Art Centers such as Ringling, Kendall School of Art and Design, SCAD (Savannah School of Art and Design), Cornell, amongst many others. But I am mostly proud of my role as wife for 40 years and mother. It is my family that is my priority and the center of my world.
