Hello,homeschool-placer I am a brand new homeschooling parent trying to get some assistance. What type of records are required of homeschooled children in New Jersey? Opinions on the program and a particular homeschool New Jersey co-op are welcome too.

Hi!homeschool-placer It is not mandated by law for homeschooled children in New Jersey to maintain records, having said this, it is considered substantially appropriate and valuable to maintain a homeschooling portfolio for your child’s progress year to year. This information is crucial when it comes to developing a high school transcript for future college or career needs or in the event the homeschooler needs to return to school down the road.

As a parent, you may want to consider things worth keeping record of. Some pointers for you:

• For any standardized tests taken, maintain record of the scores

• The grades by subject gotten by the students

• The subject work undertaken at each grade level

• Other achievements of the students including extracurricular activities the students participated in

• Any volunteer time the student undertook while homeschooling

I suggest you take a look at this page which provides specific confirmation regarding what is required to homeschool in New Jersey:
