Welcome to the United States History: The Founding and the Constitution course! 

 

Course Description

United States History: The Founding and the Constitution course is about the stories of the development of the USA and the Constitution starting with colonization and ending with the presidency of George Washington. Along with gaining a foundational understanding of the history of the creation of the USA, the student will also learn about historical figures not often taught in US history courses such as George Washington's slaves and Native American women. Woven throughout the units is a focus on personal history and the important role we as individuals play in the story of the world. 

This course is not a typical memorize dates and facts history course, it is a unique course with questions, analysis of primary source documents, activities, and stories that inspire the student to reflect on their own life and how they can make a difference for good. 

Course Goals

By the end of this course students will:

  • Have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the men and women who built and strengthened the United States of America
  • Feel a greater sense of self-worth and excitement for life and learning 
  • Have personal history stories written down and ready to pass on to future generations
  • Desire to learn more about history 
  • Be able to find life lessons from historical figures and apply them to their life 
  • Have greater critical-thinking and analyzing skills
  • Be able to explain and recite the Bill of Rights 
  • Know how to decide who to vote for when they vote for president

Target Audience

While anyone can take this course and do very well, it is targeted towards 8th-10th graders and advanced 6th - 7th graders. These grades are just a suggestion.

Have a desire to learn the greatest story in history - the story of the Founding of the United States of America! No previous US History course is required.

History is SO IMPORTANT and FASCINATING! People have done some crazy things, and some crazy awesome things! I always loved learning about history as a young kid - but I thought I wasn't very good at it because I couldn't remember every date that everything happened. In college I learned that the dates were not as important as the life lessons we can learn through STORIES! I love history stories and I love teaching them in a way we can apply them to our lives. This answer key goes along with Colonization Unit: Lesson 2: Review Pt. 1 Reading and Questions. The reading and questions are attached to Colonization Unit: Lesson 1 and Lesson 2. All of the questions are in order with the reading. Please encourage your student to read the questions and answer them as they read the packet.
