Unit 3: Landscape

In this lesson, students will analyze color meaning and connect emotions to colors. One color will be chosen to paint the landscape in the next lesson.

Students will choose one color they feel an emotional connection with and create a monochromatic color scheme for the landscape. The background and middleground will be painted in this lesson.

Unit 4: Still Life

Unit 5: Weaving

In this lesson, students will begin their own architecture. Buildings around the world can be used as inspiration for parts of the architecture drawing.

Students will begin adding color to their architecture. The buildings around the world may have colors and patterns that are inspiring for this part of the unit.

32 Background 09:32

Students will decide what time of day their artwork will show and choose colors that reflect that for the sky. Students will also add details to the bottom front of the artwork with a pathway, garden, or anything they can imagine!

Course Overview

This creative video course for 3rd to 6th grade students covers skills and techniques to be successful in elementary art. This course focuses on building knowledge about the elements and principles of design and applying those to create artwork. These lessons follow National Visual Art Standards of Creating, Responding, Presenting, and Connecting while challenging students to take creative risks in their own work.

This course includes:

  • Five projects that span multiple lessons each: Design, Landscape, Still Life, Weaving, and Architecture

Course Goals

Upon completion, students will have the art skills for upper elementary and middle school art.

Course Requirements

Students taking this course may have some art knowledge and will need to have some art materials to complete projects such as paper, pencils, a ruler, and coloring materials. It would be helpful to have paint as well, but projects can be completed with other materials if needed.
