Using a good adverb along with a powerful verb (or adjective or adverb) can only increase the power of the whole writing or speaking product.

It also includes reminders concerning the use of the other parts of speech, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections, which are limited lists of words, but they have specific uses and specific meanings. If these are used incorrectly, it weakens the overall message.

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course begins with an overview of the eight parts of speech (POS) followed by an in-depth study of each. We will cover nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections, learning to define, recognize, and use them correctly and effectively in speech and composition.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This course is designed for students in grades 7-12.

COURSE GOALS

After successfully completing this course, students will have a strong foundation in grammar upon which to build higher level grammatical skills. Students will be ready to move into the second course which will focus on sentence construction, phrases and clauses, diagramming sentences, sentence types, common sentence errors, and parallel structure which will strengthen grammar, language, and writing skills needed for being successful at the secondary and post secondary levels.
