Course Summary:

This course is designed to give students an engaging and efficient learning experience exploring all of the most important skills and concepts in 7th grade mathematics.  The course layout will allow students to progress through the course at their own pace with a straightforward and student-friendly video lesson and practice lesson format. Students will be expected to watch the video lesson, and then take the practice assessment attched to the lesson.  Once they have completed the practice assessment, the following video will review and explain each item on the assessment.  At the end of each assessment review video, students will need to pass a brief quiz to move forward in the course, providing frequent checks for understanding and encouraging students to reflect on their own learning. Videos are designed to be manageable in length and contain hooks to real world concepts to help students stay engaged in the content.

The course begins with a comprehensive review of basic numeracy skills necesary for 7th grade mathematics.  Topics covered include integers, exponents, square roots, fractions, decimals, percents and more.  Special emphasis is put on laying the groundwork for the coordinate plane and algebra with a deep dive into integers and the number line.  The second and third sections address geometry and concepts related to geometry such as congruence and similarity.  Students will find that these sections build in rigor as the lessons progress culminating by learning about the concepts of surface area and volume.  The last two sections of the course focus on pre-algebra, where students will learn to interpret and solve simple algebraic expressions and equations, and are exposed to managing and interpreting data.  Students will explore meaningful connections between tabular data and graphical representations, and learn about the applications of probability in the real world.
