Course Overview

This unique course covers both the fourth and fifth grade common core math curriculum and additional concepts that will help students as they navigate through life. The course features a logical progression of new concepts as students develop their understanding of mathematical processes. New concepts are introduced visually and with different techniques that address different learning styles. The result is that each student can use the techniques and styles that work best for them to quickly understand concepts. Students are encouraged to think logically and critically about each new concept and to become detectives who make inferences based on the information given and who investigate how new concepts relate to old concepts. Every unit contains many real world applications of the concepts introduced during the unit and because the grades are combined into one course, students have more opportunities for in depth study and understanding of the concepts.

What are the Course Goals for your student?

Students will be able to apply critical thinking and problem solving skills to math as well as life in general. Students will understand how the mathematical concepts are applied to real life.

Who is this course for and what are the requirements?

This course is intended primarily for fourth and fifth grade students. Some advanced third grade students may find the course appropriate. Sixth grade students who would like a review of fourth or fifth grade topics would also find the course appropriate. All students must have a good understanding of third grade math concepts including multiplication and division tables.
