Course Description
The Art course includes an exploration of the visual elements of art as well as learning and becoming inspired by the masters in art history. Topics include the elements of line, texture, value, form, color, and space. Topics also include artists such as Andy Warhol, Cezzane, Keith Haring, Monet, Surratt, Rousseau and Vincent Van Gogh. Topics include multi-media art, perspective, color mixing with tints and tones as well as the foundations of drawing and painting. Emphasis will be placed on developing creativity, as well as improving drawing and painting skills. There are no prior requirements for this course, any skill, and level welcome. Students will learn how to draw realistically, how to mix paint to create colors, tints, shades as well as how to use colors to create masterpieces. Students will create multimedia pieces of art such as collage and printmaking. Students will learn the elements of art such as value, color theory, texture, form, space, and line. We will also explore periods in art history such as Pop Art and Impressionism. Students will learn how to draw a realistic portrait by creating an animated self-portrait. We will be using acrylic paint, watercolor, oil pastel, pencil, and paper.

Course Goals
Upon successful completion of this class, students will be able to:

Target Audience
This course is for any young artist who wants to learn the elements of art and practice their skill but is recommended for grades 3-5 yet can still be appreciated for 6th graders who want to learn the foundations of art.
Materials
Watercolor, acrylic, paint brushes, cardboard, cereal box, string, oil pastel (and or crayon), paper, watercolor paper, colored paper, glue, scissors, and pencil. (Any paint, crayons, and color pencils may be used as a substitute to oil pastel and acrylic paint)
