Lesson Guidelines

Each Lesson Must Have:

      • Video file ("video-lesson" or "video-lecture") + Exercise Review Video (for math, science, etc.)
      •
      • Support material (practice sheet, exercise, or material to expand on the subject)
      •
      • Digital Quiz (system will automatically correct and grade all quizzes)

Video Lesson

Each lesson requires a video-lecture of approximately 10 to 20 minutes long (and up to 30 minutes). The exact length of each video-lesson will vary depending on the age of the target audience and the topic covered. It is recommended that video-lessons for children under the age of ten remain under 15 minutes long as their attention and concentration span tends to be shorter than the concentration span of older children and adults. If you believe your lesson may be longer than 30 minutes (40 or 50 minutes), you may also consider splitting the lesson into parts (Part I, Part II, Part III, etc.). For most academic courses (math, algebra, chemistry, languages, etc.), each lesson must contain at least one exercise/practice worksheet and a counterpart exercise review video. The exercise review video is simply a short video-lesson where you go over each of the exercise's problems and provide the correct answer.

Important: Do not just provide the correct answers during the exercise review video. This is not really very helpful if the students get an answer wrong. Students need to understand where they made the mistake(s) and how to solve the problem the correct way. The exercise review video must show how to arrive to the solution step-by-step. This adds tremendous value to the course. You can record yourself solving the problem on a whiteboard or blackboard, use a docu-cam or even record your computer screen. What is really important is for the student to see the steps needed in order to arrive to the correct answer.

Support Material

Support material consists of files which students will be able to download as they progress through each lesson of the course. These files could be Microsoft Word, PDF's, Excel, images (JPG, PNG), etc. If you have been teaching already for some time, you probably have many such files either in digital format or paper format; you can scan and upload the latter. Support material is an added-value to each lesson. However, we stress on the concept of "quality" over "quantity".

Quiz

Creating multiple choice digital quizzes and tests is very easy. Our system will provide you an interactive tool to create quizzes and tests in just a few minutes. The system will take care of correcting the answers and grading too. Quizzes can vary in length. We will leave it up to you to decide how much to ask after each lesson. The quiz could be as short as a question or two in order to ensure that the students are paying attention to the entire lesson. In fact, questions can be very specific pointing to data you just presented, or can be open-ended questions designed to provoke thought or to be discussed with the student's parents. You can even use subsequent lessons to provide clarity on these questions and their answers.

Answer Sheets and Resources (typically required for math, science, and analogous subjects)

As a teacher, you understand with full clarity the hard work that goes into correcting assignments, quizzes, tests and other work. Parents, many of them with full-time jobs or other responsibilities, share the same or greater burden. The "Resources" section of the course enables you to upload answer sheets to the quizzes, tests and other materials which students go through and download throughout the course. Via a special log in, parents can then download these materials and easily correct their children's work. The "Resources" tab can also include additional practice files and their counterpart answer sheets, or other ideas for activities so that parents can become involved in their children's education, without having to spend hours coming up with new ideas of their own.

Important Tip : The additional content you provide can help differentiate your course from similar courses, and it also adds value to yours.

Minimum requirements to pass our Course Review Process

Generally speaking, most full academic courses (e.g., 5th Grade Math, 6th Grade Science, etc.) must contain a minimum of:

  • A minimum of 40 lessons (teachers typically create courses that are between 40 and 70 lessons)
  • Each video-lesson must be at least 10 to 20 minutes in length (and up to 30 minutes)
  • Each lesson must contain at least one support file (practice file with exercise/worksheet)
  • For most academic subjects (math, science, algebra, etc.) each lesson must have one counterpart exercise review video
  • Teacher must appear in at least 30% of the video (we do not allow 100% docu-cam based courses)

Remember: With Lernsys, you will never have to correct any quizzes, tests, or homework. You simply upload video-lessons and exercises.
