What is "Recursive Grading" and how does it work?

The Recursive Grading feature works in conjunction with the Grade Tracking feature. While the Grade Tracking feature provides a quiz or test final mark when quizzes or tests are passed with a 100% mark, or skipped after taking a quiz or test, the Recursive Grade feature provides a mark or grade each time the quiz or test is taken.

• Grade Tracking: Mark is shown when quiz or test is passed with 100% mark, or once a quiz or test is first completed and then skipped
• Recursive Grading: Mark is shown each time the quiz or test is taken

Why are these two features in place?

At Lernsys, we take education seriously and we know parents do as well. While we understand that most homeschoolers, specially those in high school, understand the importance of their education and that there is little to gain in the long run by cheating, some students may use Recursive Grading to try to cheat the system. When the system provides a mark or grade each time a quiz or test is taken, students can try to attempt different answers and see if the mark goes up or down, therefore obtaining indirectly the correct answer to a question. For example, a student may choose answer "A" for a particular question and submit the test in order to see what the mark is. He or she can then select answer "B" for the same question and see whether or not this affects the mark positively or negatively. Similarly, they can go through each different possible answer "C", "D", etc., and once they see the mark go up, they will in effect know what the correct answer is for any given question.

By default, Recursive Grading is disabled. We will leave it up to you to decide whether or not this feature should be enabled.

How do I enable Recursive Grading?

To enable Recursive Grading, follow these simple steps:

1. Log in to the Classroom area

2. Select the course for which you want to enable Recursive Grading

3. Go to the Resources tab

4. Log in using your parent credentials and enable Recursive Grading

Note: Recursive Grading is a course-specific setting which applies only to the course for which the setting is enabled.
