Course Overview
This Physical Education Course provides a one-of-a-kind, fun, challenging, and interactive experience for students to engage in exercise and learn how to make wise and health-informed decisions. There are many different types of workout videos in this course that will meet the needs of all learners. These workout videos consist of bodyweight exercises and will require some effort and motivation :)
As students improve their overall fitness, they will be learning about physical education and social-emotional topics. This course teaches students about the importance of physical and mental health, fitness, nutrition, sleep, and other health-related topics. This course teaches students how to live an active and healthy lifestyle. In addition, this course provides students with the opportunity to earn Physical Education credit.
Course Goals
Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
- Learn fitness, exercise, anatomy, nutrition, sleep, and health-related vocabulary
- Improve their literacy skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) through readings, vocabulary, written assignments, article reports, collect/analyze fitness data, and activities that require students to engage in health-related discussions with friends and family
- Explain the 5 Components of Health-related Fitness and apply this knowledge to their exercise routines
- Describe the importance of warm-up and recovery workouts
- Explain the FITT Principle and apply this knowledge to their exercise routines
- Create a workout plan consisting of circuit training
- Create a workout plan consisting of warm-up, main workout, and recovery
- Explain the importance of fitness measurements and collect/analyze data on their fitness measurements
- Learn about nutrition, healthy foods to eat, and collect/analyze data on their nutrition log
- Learn about sleep, describe the importance and purpose of sleep, and collect/analyze data on their sleep log
- Engage in safe and challenging workouts/exercises
- Learn proper technique when performing a wide range of bodyweight exercises and workouts
- Determine what types of workouts they love to do and add these workouts into their daily life and for the rest of their lives
Target Audience
This course is primarily intended for 5th-10th grade students (10-15 years old).
*However, many of the workout videos and academic content are also appropriate for younger/older siblings, parents, and friends to join in and have some fun.
